James R. (Scotty) Stewart, Jr. passed away Wednesday, September 28, 2011. Born October 1, 1913 to the late James R. and Elizabeth Stewart of Lebanon, Ind. He lived in Scotland for part of his youth, hence his nickname. After graduating from the Indianapolis School of Pharmacy, now Butler University,
Scotty worked as the national sales manager of the Pitman Moore Co., which later became Dow Chemical. During World War II, he served as a pharmacist in the Navy. After retiring from Dow Chemical, Scotty continued to work as a pharmacist both at Hook’s Drugs and Walmart.
Scotty was an active member of the Sales & Marketing Club of Indianapolis, the Service Club of Indianapolis, and Northminster Presbyterian Church. Scotty will be remembered as a generous person who loved people. His pastimes were gardening and golf.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred; his brother, Tom; and his sister, Jean Walters. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Sandy and Mike Boswell of Dallas, TX; son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Betsy Stewart of Fort Myers, FL; son and daughter-in-law, John and Debbie Stewart of Indianapolis, along with 7 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 1 at the Second Presbyterian Church, 770 N. Meridian Street, with the calling starting at 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to IU Dance Marathon, 702 Barnhill Drive, Indianapolis, IN 46202, which was founded by his granddaughter.
